Missing downloaded particle effects - where are they stored?

Solved byMar 16, 2012 08:58 When you download a particle effect, it creates a .DZP file. Mine are going to an F: drive under Users>administration>downloads.
When I double click on it, it creates a PIP folder in C:UsersPublicCyberLinkDownloaded EffectsParticle Effects. There is one PIP folder created for the particle effect installed. For example PIP001 might contain all of the details for fatasie. The next downloaded and installed particle effect will be PIP002 and so forth.
I can open the PIP folder and see all of the thumbnail pictures that make up the effect. The trouble is Power Director 10 (at least mine) doesn't look in this area. All of the particle effects loaded to the downloaded effects folder are not available for me to use and are thus missing in the particle effects library.
The particle effects that show up in my Power Director 10 libraries are in a different folder. For me, there are two of them:
C:Program Files (x86)CyberlinktemplatesPowerDirector Content Pack 10PowerDirector 10 Content Pack IParticleObject
C:Program Files (x86)CyberlinktemplatesPowerDirector Content Pack 10PowerDirector 10 Content Pack IIParticleObject
If I copy a PIP folder effect from the downloaded effects area into one of the the Content Pack folderParticle Objects folder, I find it in the particle effects library and it works fine.
If you have a successful version of PD10 and Win 7 64 bit running, can you tell me where the downloaded particle effects are being stored on your directory that PD10 finds and uses please?
PD10 created the download area and installs particle effects to that area, so why doesn't it find it? Perhaps I moved the location of 'My Documents' to an F: drive and this confuses PD10? I am so close to solving this issue and need this last bit of information.
Thank you.

Mar 16, 2012 09:34 G'day Terry -
You've done some digging around already!
Downloaded PiP objects need to be stored in C:UsersPublicCyberLinkDownloaded Effects for PD to access them. Your downloaded effects are there? Yes? but not showing up in PD???
Does your project aspect ratio match the AR of the effects?
There may be something in this tutorial that gives you a clue.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxc68R1CSkE&feature=plcp&context=C4610c5eVDvjVQa1PpcFPrUNuVkyYgvDcGAF2Bwy8QMP4vQAt4O2M%3D

Mar 16, 2012 09:45 Tony, thank you. I do have about 138 downloaded particle effects in that very folder. The aspect ratio isn't the issue. I copied various PIP folders into the content pack comprising various aspect ratios and they show up in the downloaded area of the particle effects library segmented by the appropriate aspect ratio. I did test that. I also closed PD10 and reopened. All to no avail.
The only thing I know I did was move my library folders to a mirrored F: drive. The cyberlink downloaded folders remain on the C: drive in the location working for you. All other 'My' folders (My documents, My pictures, etc) were moved.
Copying the effects over to the template/contect packs is an acceptable workaround, but I really want to see why this missing particle effect issue exists.

I don't think I can shed much more light than you've shed yourself!
You'd think it may have something to do with the relocation of the Documents (etc) folders.. but I honestly don't know.
In C:UsersxxxxDocumentsCyberLinkPowerDirector10.0 all custom PiPs, titles, particles are stored. Where do yours go???
Cheers - Tony

Mar 16, 2012 10:47 Tony, thank you again. I do have all users loaded with C:UsersxxxxDocumentsCyberLinkPowerDirector10.0. I even uninstalled and re-installed PD10 to ensure I had a clean structure. I have never created a custom effect, so I can't be sure they load to that structure. Is there a quick test you can recommend for me to follow it through?
There is something about that dowload folder that blocks PD10. Maybe it is a security or access rights or something. I will keep looking.
In the mean time, I hate to keep loading my downloaded PIP folders in with the content packs if that isn't the right place to put them. Is there any recommendation on the best place to put them? I copied the download folder and pasted it next to the content packs folders but PD10 didn't see it. I would like to see all of the downloaded files remain contained and put somewhere I can maintain it, but can't find that area. AHHHHH!
I have attached a visual of where things are stored in my file structure. I think it is right where it should be.
Thanks again.

Jun 20, 2012 13:21 I am very new to PD but this is what I did and what I found..
Background:
Because of all the discussion about needing C drive space I moved as much as I could off to my other (D:) drive.
Like you this included the 'My Folders' directories.
From info in this thread I found the missing files in C:UsersPublicCyberLinkDownloaded Effects (And because I had repeatedly tried to install files according to the instructions pip001 to pip006 were all the same..)
New Info:
I also had a look to see if anything was in my D:UsersPublic folders
AND..
There is a FOLDER ONLY structure all neatly laid out in D:Public FoldersCyberLinkDownloaded Effects BUT NO FILES and NO pip001 folders.
Work Around:
When I placed the pip001 folders into the D:Public FoldersCyberLinkDownloaded Effects folder structure it appeared in PD
Summary:
It appears that the installer for .dzp files finds out that 'My Folders' are not in C drive anymore - but then installs the pip000 folders in C Drive anyway.
Moving the pip000 folders to the equivalent location in the new 'My Folders' drive (D Drive for me - F Drive for you) seems to work (but I haven't actually trialed any of these downloaded items in a movie yet..)
